Japan’s 108-Year-Old Barber Breaks World Record

Shitsui Hakoishi, a 108-year-old barber from the town of Tochigi, has officially been named the world’s oldest living female barber, according to Guinness World Records.

Recognized on March 5, 2025, Hakoishi broke the record at 108 years and 115 days old. She began her barbering career in 1936 after receiving her professional license and went on to open a barbershop with her late husband. Nearly nine decades later, she continues to cut hair and provide facial care to customers.

Her recognition follows the previous record held by Anthony Mancinelli of the United States, who was named the world’s oldest barber at 107 before passing away in 2019. Hakoishi now holds the title of the oldest living barber, continuing her work with steady hands and enduring dedication.
