Ceasefire Day 13: What’s Next?
It is day 13 of the 14-day ceasefire between the United States and Iran, as both sides approach a critical deadline for deciding whether negotiations will continue or tensions could rise again.
U.S. officials say a negotiating team is preparing to travel to Islamabad for a second round of face-to-face talks scheduled for the final day of the ceasefire. Iranian officials have publicly said they do not plan to attend, though previous negotiations moved forward despite earlier conditions and objections from Tehran.
Earlier in the ceasefire period, Iran had outlined demands including access through the Strait of Hormuz, the release of frozen assets, and reparations related to the conflict. None of those conditions were formally met before the first round of talks took place.
Analysts say uncertainty remains about Iran’s negotiating position as diplomatic messaging from Tehran has at times differed from developments on the ground.
With only one day remaining in the ceasefire window, officials say the outcome of the next round of talks could shape whether the pause in hostilities extends into a longer-term agreement.
