Kenya’s First Mobile Dialysis Unit Brings Treatment Closer to Patients

A healthcare organization in Murang’a County has introduced Kenya’s first mobile dialysis unit, aiming to improve access to life-saving treatment for patients in rural areas.

The Benacare van is fully equipped with advanced medical tools and dialysis machinery, allowing patients to receive treatment without traveling long distances.

The mobile unit operates across Murang’a County, offering dialysis at little to no cost for patients covered by the national insurance fund or government policies.

Despite its success, the initiative faces challenges, including the need for generators, structural modifications, and adequate water supply at each new site.

Globally, one in eight people suffer from kidney disease, with a majority in low to middle-income households where dialysis treatment remains costly and often inaccessible.
