LEGO Set Reaches the Edge of Space
A custom LEGO set inspired by the upcoming sci-fi film “Project Hail Mary” has officially secured a Guinness World Record after being launched into the stratosphere.
On March 20, 2026, minifigures of characters Ryland Grace and Rocky reached a peak altitude of 114,790 feet above sea level. This collaboration between Sony Pictures Releasing UK and Sent Into Space used a high-altitude balloon system to carry the payload to the edge of space before a successful retrieval.
The achievement was verified by Guinness World Records as the highest altitude launch and retrieval of a LEGO set. An official ceremony was held in Las Vegas on April 13 to present the certificate to the film’s directors, highlighting the excitement surrounding the adaptation of Andy Weir’s bestselling novel starring Ryan Gosling.
