Meteor Older Than Earth Smashes Into Georgia Home
In June, a 4.56-billion-year-old meteor — about 20 million years older than Earth — blazed across the skies of Georgia before exploding with a bright flash and loud boom. Named the “McDonough Meteor,” it crashed through the roof of a Henry County home, leaving scientists stunned. Researchers from the University of Georgia confirmed it as a chondrite, one of the most common stony meteorites, and warned that while technology has improved meteor recovery, a much larger impact could one day cause a catastrophic global event.
