Knights and Dames: Idris Elba, Torvill & Dean Honored in UK’s New Year List
King Charles’s New Year Honours list for 2026 has been published, recognizing over 1,157 individuals for their contributions to British society, with several high-profile international figures among the recipients.
Actor Idris Elba has been awarded a knighthood for his dedicated anti-knife crime campaigning with youth, while Olympic ice dancing legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean receive damehood and knighthood respectively for their iconic 1984 Bolero performance and lasting impact on British sport.
The list also honors Dutch coach Sarina Wiegman with an honorary damehood following the England women’s soccer team’s back-to-back European championship wins, alongside recognitions for actors Cynthia Erivo, Warwick Davis, and Meera Syal, as well as business leaders.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer praised the honorees for strengthening communities, with all recipients set to receive their awards at investiture ceremonies at royal residences later in the year.
