Why the U.S. F-35 Jet Is Getting Pricier

The F-35, America’s most advanced and expensive fighter jet, is facing rising costs as new tariffs hit its global supply chain.

Built by Lockheed Martin, the F-35 relies on more than 1,900 suppliers across a dozen countries. A Danish firm alone has supplied over 30,000 parts, while British companies contribute about 15% of each jet’s value.

Tariffs on imported components and materials are expected to raise costs significantly. RTX, the company behind the jet’s engine and sensors, says it will take an $850 million hit this year due to trade measures.
