Who’s Buying TikTok? Trump Says a Secret Deal Is Close
Former U.S. President Donald Trump revealed in a Fox News interview that he has found a group of “very wealthy people” to buy TikTok’s U.S. assets.
Though he didn’t name the buyers, Trump promised to disclose their identities in about two weeks. The announcement comes as TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, faces a looming September 17 deadline to sell or shut down its U.S. operations under a 2024 law.
Trump emphasized that the deal might still require Chinese approval and expressed confidence that President Xi Jinping would agree. A previous deal earlier this year, which would’ve spun off TikTok into a U.S.-owned firm, fell apart after Trump announced aggressive tariffs on Chinese goods, prompting Beijing to block the sale.
Trump claims TikTok helped him connect with young voters during the 2024 campaign and has since extended the platform’s sale deadline three times.
As ByteDance remains silent and geopolitical tensions linger, the fate of TikTok in America remains uncertain. Will this mystery deal be enough to satisfy regulators and users, or is a full ban still on the table?
