Welch Questions U.S. Venezuela Strategy

Senator Peter Welch sharply criticized the Trump administration’s actions in Venezuela, questioning how the policy benefits everyday Americans. Welch argued that while Nicolás Maduro has been removed and jailed, the network of officials and power brokers he put in place remains intact. He said the move does nothing to address core concerns like housing costs, health care, education, or affordability, and instead primarily benefits oil companies and well-connected corporate interests. Welch warned the approach amounts to regime-change politics that contradict President Trump’s past opposition to foreign interventions, calling the policy misguided and harmful to American priorities.
