Water Threatens 73% of UNESCO Heritage Sites, UN Warns

UNESCO has issued a stark warning that 73% of the world’s 1,172 non-marine World Heritage Sites are under severe threat from water-related risks like droughts, flooding, and water stress.

A new report reveals that climate change is intensifying extreme weather events, putting cultural and natural landmarks—from India’s Taj Mahal to Yellowstone in the US—at increasing risk.

Examples include Iraq’s drying Eden marshes, Peru’s flood-prone Chan Chan ruins, and shrinking mudlands in China.
