Forget Search Bars — Walmart Brings Shopping to ChatGPT

OpenAI is bringing shopping into the world of conversation. The company announced a new partnership with Walmart that will allow customers to browse and purchase products directly within ChatGPT.

Using a built-in “Instant Checkout” system, shoppers will be able to buy anything from meal ingredients to household items simply by chatting with the AI. The integration marks a major step in OpenAI’s push into e-commerce, following similar partnerships with Shopify and Etsy.

For Walmart, the move fits into its broader effort to expand artificial intelligence across its business — from smarter catalog systems to its in-store AI assistant, Sparky. The retail giant says the goal is to make online shopping faster, easier, and more personal by removing the traditional search-and-click process.

Industry analysts see the partnership as a sign of growing competition between OpenAI and tech giants like Amazon and Google in the digital retail space.
