Venetians: “No space for Bezos”!

Jeff Bezos’ upcoming wedding in Venice has sparked backlash from local residents and activists who say the event represents everything that’s gone wrong in their city.

With a rumored $10 million budget and a guest list featuring global celebrities, the celebration is set to be the city’s biggest wedding since George and Amal Clooney’s in 2014.

But unlike the Clooney nuptials, this one is being met with public anger.

Posters and banners reading “No Space for Bezos” have appeared across the city, while protesters plan to disrupt the ceremony by blocking canals and gathering in the streets. At the heart of the outrage is a sense that Venice has been reduced to a luxury playground for the ultra-rich, while longtime residents face housing shortages, rising prices, and the erosion of basic services.

City officials defend the event as a boost for the local economy, but critics argue that one-off mega-weddings don’t help most Venetians and only highlight a broken tourism model.
