Van Gogh Museum Warns It Could Close Without Funding
The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, home to the world’s largest collection of Vincent van Gogh’s works, has warned it may face closure if the Dutch government does not provide more funding. The museum says a $120 million renovation is urgently needed to protect its artworks, staff, and visitors. While the Dutch culture ministry insists the current subsidy is sufficient, the museum argues that a historic agreement obligates the state to provide more support. With more than 200 paintings, 500 drawings, and countless letters, the institution is pursuing legal action as it pushes for its “Masterplan 2028” renovation.
