US Preparing Sudden Partial Embassy Evacuation in Iraq
The United States is reportedly preparing a partial evacuation of its embassy in Baghdad and has authorized the voluntary departure of military dependents from locations across the Middle East due to heightened security concerns, Reuters reported, citing US and Iraqi officials.
US President Donald Trump also confirmed that US personnel were being moved from the potentially “dangerous” Middle East.
The announcement came a couple of days ahead the sixth round of nuclear talks between the United States and Iran in the Omani capital, Muscat.
Trump had until recently expressed optimism about the talks, but said in a recent interview that he was “less confident” about reaching a deal.
He had warned of military action if negotiations fail, and Iran threatened to target US military bases in the region if conflict breaks out.
