Unseen Picasso Painting Set to Fetch Millions at Paris Auction

A newly resurfaced painting by Pablo Picasso, unseen by the public for over 80 years, is set to be auctioned in Paris with an estimated price of at least 8 million euros ($9.45 million).

Painted in 1943, “Bust of a Woman with a Flowered Hat (Dora Maar) 1943” remained in a French family’s private collection since 1944, only previously documented in black-and-white photos from Picasso’s studio.

Experts praise the work for its extraordinary emotional depth, depicting Picasso’s muse and partner, Dora Maar, with remarkable expressiveness as she appears to hold back tears.

The painting has never been restored, lacquered, or framed, making it a rare, pristine example of Picasso’s craft.

Auctioneers describe the piece as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for collectors and art historians to witness a significant work from Picasso’s oeuvre.

The auction will take place at the Drouot auction house in Paris on October 24, drawing global attention from art enthusiasts and collectors alike.
