U.S. Response to Violence in Nigeria
Former USAID official Adolfo Franco says President Trump’s message to Nigeria signals concern, but not military involvement.
Franco says the administration is likely to send advisors and cooperate with the Nigerian government following attacks targeting Christians and Muslims, but does not foresee U.S. troops being deployed.
He adds that the situation should also concern neighboring African nations and European countries with a history of engagement in the region.
Franco emphasizes that the U.S. stance highlights the seriousness of the violence both domestically and globally.
