Trump’s Face Could Appear on a 2026 U.S. Coin
The U.S. Mint has revealed early drafts of a commemorative $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump’s image, designed to honor America’s 250th anniversary in 2026.
The proposed design includes Trump’s side profile with “Liberty” and “In God We Trust,” while the reverse depicts his raised-fist moment following the Butler, Pennsylvania, assassination attempt.
The concept quickly stirred legal and political debate, as U.S. law prohibits living presidents from appearing on coins.
However, the draft’s layout—placing Trump on both sides but avoiding a full “bust” portrait—appears to test the law’s wording.
The Treasury confirmed the drafts’ authenticity but stressed no final design has been approved. If chosen, this would mark the first time since Calvin Coolidge in 1926 that a living president appears on U.S. currency, a symbolic yet controversial move as America approaches its semiquincentennial celebration.
