Trump’s Diplomacy in the Russia–Ukraine War

Since taking office in January 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump has launched a series of diplomatic efforts aimed at brokering a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

His approach included high-level meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, direct engagement with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and backchannel negotiations through U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff.

Amid mounting pressure, both Kyiv and Moscow engaged in renewed discussions, culminating in a series of one-on-one meetings, including a notable encounter between Trump and Zelenskyy at the Vatican.

As of April 28, 2025, negotiations are ongoing, with Trump signaling optimism that a final ceasefire deal could soon be reached.
