Trump’s 2025 Travel Ban: What You Need to Know

In June 2025, President Trump issued a presidential proclamation creating a travel ban that blocks entry for citizens of 12 countries (including Afghanistan, Iran, Libya, and Haiti) and partially restricts seven others (e.g., Cuba, Venezuela, and Sierra Leone).

Citing national security, passport-issuing challenges, visa overstays, and terrorism ties, the policy represents one of the most expansive mobility restrictions in modern times.

Unlike the 2017 ban—which applied to seven Muslim-majority nations before adding North Korea and Venezuela—this updated ban covers more countries and adds Haiti for the first time.

The proclamation, grounded in Title I of the Immigration and Nationality Act, signals a dramatic shift in US border policy and impacts millions seeking to travel, work, study, or relocate in the United States.
