Trump Says NATO Is Stronger Under U.S. Leadership

President Donald Trump said NATO is stronger now because of U.S. leadership, arguing the alliance was weak before his administration. Speaking to reporters, Trump said member nations were not meeting defense spending commitments when he took office and described NATO as being at “2 percent” and underfunded. He said the alliance’s strength depends heavily on the United States and claimed NATO would not be strong without U.S. involvement.
