Major Announcement Expected: Trump Set to Rename Persian Gulf as Arabian Gulf

US President Donald Trump plans to officially refer to the historic Persian Gulf as the “Arabian Gulf” on his forthcoming Saudi Arabia trip, a change long championed by Arab states but fiercely opposed by Iran—formerly Persia.

While Google Maps now shows dual labels and Apple Maps sticks with “Persian Gulf,” the US military has already used “Arabian Gulf” for years.

Iran’s foreign minister condemned the move as “hostile intent,” though the executive order affects only US usage, not international charts governed by the International Hydrographic Organization.
