US President Donald Trump has threatened to block the construction of a new NFL stadium in Washington, D.C., unless the Commanders revert to their former name, the Redskins — a name widely condemned as a racial slur.

The team dropped the name in 2020 following decades of criticism from Indigenous rights groups.

On Sunday, Trump wrote on Truth Social that he would oppose any stadium deal unless the name change is reversed.

While some fans and one Native group support the original name, most Native organizations strongly oppose it.
