Trump–Netanyahu: Gaza, Iran, and a Nobel Nomination
U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a private meeting at the White House to discuss efforts to end the ongoing war in Gaza and broader regional diplomacy.
The visit came as indirect talks between Israel and Hamas resumed in Qatar, with the U.S. backing a 60-day ceasefire plan that includes phased hostage releases and Israeli military withdrawals.
While gaps remain, particularly around humanitarian aid and ceasefire guarantees, Trump expressed optimism, stating that Hamas is open to the deal.
On Iran, Trump revealed that U.S.–Iran talks are now scheduled, following joint airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites weeks earlier. He indicated sanctions could be lifted if progress is made.
During the meeting, Netanyahu also floated a proposal to relocate willing Palestinians from Gaza, with support from neighboring countries.
In a symbolic gesture, the Israeli Prime Minister presented Trump with a formal nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his ongoing efforts to “forge peace.” The meeting, held behind closed doors, reflects Washington’s central role in shaping the outcomes of multiple Middle East conflicts.
