Trump Gives Russia 50 Days to End Ukraine War
U.S. President Donald Trump has given Russia a 50-day deadline to agree to a deal ending the war in Ukraine, warning that failure to do so will trigger “very severe” tariffs, including secondary sanctions aimed at Russia’s trade partners like China, India, and Turkey.
The announcement came during a meeting at the White House with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, where the two also unveiled a multibillion-dollar arms agreement to supply Kyiv with advanced U.S.-made weapons, including Patriot anti-missile systems.
The move signals a major shift in Trump’s approach to Vladimir Putin, following earlier attempts at reconciliation during his second term. Trump said his patience had run out and cited conversations with First Lady Melania Trump as influencing his new stance.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the military support, while Chinese officials denounced the threat of sanctions as “coercive.”
On the ground, Russia continued its offensive in eastern Ukraine, while Ukrainian leaders reshuffled key cabinet roles.
As the war grinds on and global tensions rise, attention now turns to whether Trump’s 50-day deadline could finally push both sides toward a ceasefire or escalate the conflict further.
