Trump Extends TikTok Deadline Again

President Donald Trump has granted ByteDance another 90-day extension to divest TikTok’s U.S. operations, pushing the deadline to September 17, despite a federal law requiring the app to be sold or shut down in the absence of a deal.

This marks the third reprieve Trump has granted since the law was set to take effect in January 2025. The White House defended the move, saying it provides “more time to make a good deal,” with officials asserting the extension has legal backing.

TikTok confirmed it is working closely with U.S. Vice President JD Vance’s office and expressed gratitude for the administration’s continued support. The app, which played a key role in Trump’s 2024 campaign outreach to young voters, remains a politically sensitive issue tied to broader U.S.-China tensions.

Trump has indicated he supports keeping TikTok operational in the U.S., provided it is no longer under Chinese ownership. However, it remains unclear whether Chinese President Xi Jinping will allow ByteDance to proceed with a sale.
