Trump Advisor Seeks to Cut Contracts with AFP, Reuters, and AP

A senior advisor to Donald Trump has announced plans to cancel long-standing contracts between the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) and three major international news agencies.

Kari Lake, a staunch Trump ally and former journalist, revealed on X that she is moving to end contracts with The Associated Press, Reuters, and Agence France-Presse (AFP).

Lake, who recently joined USAGM as a special advisor, argued that taxpayer money should not be used to fund outside news sources.

USAGM oversees several government-funded media organizations, including Voice of America (VOA) and Radio Free Europe.

Calling the contracts “expensive and unnecessary,” Lake said the U.S. should produce its own news and questioned why external news agencies were being paid if that was not possible.
