Trump Administration Deports Venezuelans Despite Court Order

The Trump administration has deported over 200 Venezuelans, despite a federal judge’s order blocking their removal. The deportations, carried out under the Alien Enemies Act, came after Judge James Boasberg ruled that using the law to expel alleged gang members was unlawful, placing a 14-day halt on deportations.

However, the White House dismissed the ruling, claiming courts have “no jurisdiction” over presidential powers regarding foreign affairs. The deportees, allegedly linked to the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, were flown from Texas to El Salvador, where they were transferred to a high-security mega-prison.

El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele confirmed the arrivals, mocking the court’s ruling on social media. Meanwhile, legal experts and civil rights groups argue that deportations directly violate the judge’s order. The ACLU has urged the U.S. government to ensure no migrants were removed unlawfully and to work with El Salvador to return any individuals deported in violation of the ruling.
