Toronto Fair Champions Local Businesses Amid U.S. Tariff Tensions
A long-running artisan fair in Toronto has taken on new significance as Canada braces for potential tariffs under U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade policies. The One of a Kind Show, now in its 49th year, features over 400 Canadian artists and businesses — and is doubling as a rallying point for the “Buy Canadian” movement.
The fair encourages consumers to support local products as economic uncertainty and protectionist rhetoric south of the border threaten cross-border trade. Some vendors say they feel shielded by their focus on Canadian-made goods but are wary of how tariffs could affect U.S.-based customers.
“For me, everything we do is local. We’re not importing,” said vendor Sasha Jardine. “But if we have American customers, that’s where we’ll be affected.”
