Top 10 Countries in Winter Olympic Sports

As athletes prepare for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, a new ranking reveals the all-time leaders in gold medals, showcasing the historical dominance of cold-weather nations in winter sports.

Norway stands far ahead with 148 gold medals, driven by its prowess in cross-country skiing, ski jumping, and biathlon, and is home to the three most decorated Winter Olympians in history.

The United States follows in second with 114 golds, leading globally in figure skating and snowboarding, while Germany ranks third with 104 golds, excelling in bobsleigh and luge.

The top 10 is rounded out by legacy powers like the Soviet Union and Canada, as well as European nations Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, with Russia also appearing in the top tier.

Only three Asian countries—China, Japan, and South Korea—crack the top 20, mirroring their growing influence in global sports, as the list underscores how climate, tradition, and investment have shaped over a century of Winter Olympic success.
