Inside the Largest Princess Diana Fashion Auction Ever

The largest auction of Princess Diana’s fashion legacy is set for June 26 at The Peninsula Beverly Hills. Titled “Princess Diana’s Style & A Royal Collection,” the sale features over 100 pieces from the late Princess’s wardrobe, making it the most extensive Diana fashion auction in history.

Highlights include the Bellville Sassoon “caring dress,” a floral silk piece worn during hospital visits, and the Catherine Walker falcon gown from her 1986 Middle East tour. Also included is Diana’s iconic “Lady Dior” handbag, gifted to her by France’s First Lady in 1995 and later renamed in her honor.

One of the most rare and valuable items is a sketch of her 1981 royal wedding gown, accompanied by original lace from the 25-foot train designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel. The original gown weighed 20 pounds and required five size adjustments before the ceremony.

This auction follows Diana’s own 1997 sale of 70 dresses for charity, just two months before her death. Julien’s Auctions, which is organizing the event, says items like these are now viewed as cultural assets with long-term value. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Muscular Dystrophy UK, and the public exhibition in Ireland runs through June 17.
