Tensions Rise in the Caribbean as U.S. Deploys Military Task Force

Tensions are escalating in the Caribbean as President Donald Trump accuses Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and Colombian President Gustavo Petro of aiding narcotrafficking and destabilizing the region.

In response, the U.S. has deployed one of its largest military task forces to the area in decades — including warships, aircraft, Marines, and a fast-attack submarine. The deployment also features B-52 and B-1 Lancer bombers flying near Venezuelan airspace, adding heavy firepower and long-range strike capability.

While Washington insists the buildup aims to curb drug trafficking, Caracas has called it a direct threat, warning that U.S. warships and missiles are now pointed at Venezuela.
