Syrian President Visits White House in Rare Meeting

President Trump meets with Syria’s president today at the White House in a rare Oval Office meeting aimed at reshaping Middle East dynamics. On the table: a possible new U.S. presence near Damascus, easing tensions along the Israel–Lebanon–Syria frontier, and commitments to curb militia activity near the Golan Heights. Washington is also pushing for protections for Syria’s Kurdish communities and other minorities as the country moves toward reintegration. Sanctions remain a sticking point, with the U.S. suggesting relief could follow if Damascus makes concrete security and counter-terrorism commitments. Daniele Compatangelo reports.
