Syria Government and Kurdish-Led Forces Reach Ceasefire Deal
A major shift is underway in Syria after the government of President Ahmed al-Sharaa and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces reached a ceasefire and territorial integration agreement following years of conflict.
Under the deal, Kurdish fighters are withdrawing from key areas in northeastern Syria, while government forces move into cities including Raqqa and Deir el-Zour, placing long-contested territory under Damascus’ control. Analysts say the agreement could reshape the balance of power in Syria’s civil conflict and test al-Sharaa’s pledge to form a more inclusive administration, even as tensions continue in parts of the north.
