Support Pours In for ‘Hero’ Who Disarmed Bondi Gunman

Ahmed al Ahmed, a 43-year-old Sydney resident and father of two, is being widely praised after risking his life to stop a gunman during a deadly mass shooting at Bondi Beach that killed 15 people.

According to police and witness accounts, Ahmed hid behind parked cars as the attack unfolded before charging one of the shooters from behind, seizing his rifle and knocking him to the ground.

Moments later, a second attacker shot Ahmed twice, leaving him with serious bullet wounds to his arm and hand.

He was rushed to hospital, where he underwent surgery and remains under medical care, with his family saying additional procedures may be required.

Australian authorities said the attack was carried out by a father and son who targeted a Jewish Hanukkah celebration, making it the country’s worst mass shooting in nearly 30 years.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Ahmed’s actions saved lives, describing his decision to run toward danger as an example of humanity at its best.

Tributes poured in from leaders at home and abroad, including U.S. President Donald Trump, while public support surged in the form of donations exceeding A$1.1 million within a single day.

Outside the hospital, strangers left flowers and messages of gratitude, turning Ahmed into a symbol of courage, solidarity, and moral resolve in the face of terror.
