Superman Comic Once Stolen Sells for Record $15 Million

A rare copy of “Action Comics No. 1,” the 1938 comic that first introduced Superman to the world and was once stolen from actor Nicolas Cage’s home, has been sold in a private sale for a record-shattering $15 million.
This sale, negotiated by Metropolis Collectibles/Comic Connect, officially sets a new world record for the most expensive comic book ever sold, eclipsing the previous record of $9.12 million.
The comic is one of only about 100 known surviving copies and is credited with launching the entire superhero genre.
Its value has been amplified by its remarkable history: it was purchased by Cage in 1996 for $150,000, stolen from his Los Angeles home in 2000, recovered in 2011 from a storage locker, returned to him, and then sold by him at auction in 2012 for $2.2 million before this latest monumental private sale.
