Russian Artist Revives Trump-Putin Painting as Leaders Prepare for Talks
As former U.S. President Donald Trump prepares to hold a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a Russian artist has brought back a painting he created during Trump’s first presidency. Alexey Sergienko, a painter, yoga coach, and businessman from St. Petersburg, retrieved the artwork—a fusion of Trump and Putin’s faces—from storage, believing it has regained relevance amid ongoing tensions over Ukraine.
Trump and Putin are scheduled to speak on Tuesday (March 18) between 1300 and 1500 GMT. The Kremlin has confirmed that the discussion will focus on resolving the Ukraine conflict and stabilizing U.S.-Russia relations. For Sergienko, the call itself is a positive step. “The fact that our leaders start talking is a big move forward. This is very good,” he said.
The painting, titled “Peace to the World,” features the word “Peace” in both English and Russian. The Russian word “mir” has a dual meaning—translating to both “peace” and “world.” Sergienko believes the painting embodies his hope for diplomacy.
