Rio’s Christ the Redeemer Statue Turns Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Christ the Redeemer statue lit up in pink on October 1 to launch the 2025 Pink October campaign, a global effort to raise awareness about breast cancer and highlight the importance of early detection.

Organized by the Laco Rosa Foundation, the event brought together women, health advocates, and public figures, many of whom displayed pink ribbons to show solidarity.

The foundation emphasized that mammograms can raise cure rates to as high as 95% when cancer is detected early and announced it will donate more than 3,000 mammograms through Brazil’s public health system, supported by private sponsors.

With breast cancer still a leading cause of death among Brazilian women, the campaign also called for faster access to preventive care and diagnostics, underscoring the life-saving power of awareness and timely treatment.
