Pope ‘Deeply Saddened’ by Israeli Strike on Gaza’s Only Catholic Church

Pope Leo XIV expressed deep sorrow over an Israeli airstrike that killed two people at the Holy Family Church, the only Catholic church in Gaza.

In a statement delivered by the Vatican’s secretary of state, the Pope called for an immediate ceasefire and appealed for peace and reconciliation, though he did not mention Israel by name.

Israel has denied targeting religious sites and is investigating the incident.
