From Politics to the Pitch: Trump Joins Chelsea’s Celebration

In a headline-grabbing moment during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final, U.S. President Donald Trump attended the match between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Trump joined FIFA President Gianni Infantino at halftime, praising him for doing a “great job” and calling the tournament “fantastic to watch.” He also paid tribute to the late Pelé, describing the legendary footballer as “great.”

On the field, Chelsea delivered a commanding performance, defeating PSG 3–0 thanks to two goals from Cole Palmer and a third from João Pedro.

After the final whistle, Trump took part in the trophy presentation, personally handing the silverware to Chelsea captain Reece James. Unlike usual protocol, he remained on the pitch during the team’s celebration, briefly becoming the center of attention.

While some players appeared surprised, the ceremony continued without incident. Trump’s appearance underscored growing U.S. visibility in global football ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which the U.S. will co-host.
