Paris Plans to Transform 500 Streets into Green Zones
The city of Paris is set to hold a public vote on Sunday to decide whether 500 additional streets should be converted into pedestrian-only green zones.
The proposal aims to expand on existing efforts to reduce traffic, pollution, and noise in the capital. Currently, 200 streets have already been pedestrianized, and many are near schools and lined with plants and greenery.
If approved, the plan would remove 10,000 parking spots and restrict around 300 meters of roadway per neighborhood. Residents aged 16 and older are eligible to vote, and public input will determine which streets are selected.
