Oracle’s Ellison Challenges Musk for Billionaire Throne

Elon Musk may soon lose his long-standing title as the world’s richest person to Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, whose fortune has surged on the back of the artificial intelligence boom.

Oracle shares skyrocketed nearly 40 percent after the company announced record-breaking contracts and projected massive growth in its cloud business, pushing Ellison’s wealth up by more than $100 billion in a single day to about $406 billion.

Bloomberg even placed him slightly ahead of Musk in its billionaire index, though Forbes still shows Musk at $440 billion.

The difference stems from how each index values their holdings: Musk’s wealth is largely tied to Tesla, whose stock has stumbled in 2025 due to slowing sales and political controversies, while Ellison controls more than 40 percent of Oracle, positioning him to ride the explosive wave of AI-driven demand.

With Ellison, 81, now challenging Musk for the top spot, the race for the title of world’s richest reflects a larger shift in tech power toward artificial intelligence.
