One High Five at a Time: China’s Viral Cat Greets Visitors at Xiyuan Temple

A cat named Jellybean has become an internet sensation in China after greeting visitors with high fives at Xiyuan Temple in Suzhou.

The feline, now dubbed the “High Five Cat,” was seen raising her paw to meet the hands of adults and children, drawing crowds hoping for a lucky greeting. A video of the interaction posted online quickly went viral, gaining over 120,000 likes.

Jellybean resides at the 13th-century Xiyuan Temple, known for its community of stray cats. Her owner, Tang Dou, says the cat’s friendly nature has brought joy to visitors — especially children — and is believed to spread positive energy.

In Chinese culture, cats with raised paws are symbols of good fortune, making Jellybean’s gesture all the more meaningful.
