Norwegian Biathlon Bronze Medalist Admits Infidelity in Post-Race Interview
What began as a podium moment at the 2026 Winter Olympics quickly shifted into one of the most unexpected personal revelations of the Games.
Norwegian biathlete Sturla Holm Laegreid secured bronze in the men’s 20-kilometer individual race in Anterselva, marking his first individual Olympic medal. But during a live interview with Norwegian broadcaster NRK, Laegreid moved away from sport and addressed his personal life.
Fighting back tears, the 29-year-old revealed that he had cheated on his girlfriend three months earlier, describing it as “the biggest mistake of my life.” He said he had informed her about the incident a week prior to the race and acknowledged that many viewers might now see him “in a different light.”
Laegreid said sport had “taken a back seat” in recent days and admitted he was not fully present mentally. Instead of celebrating his medal, he was seen crying and embracing teammates after the race.
He later told journalists he made the decision to speak publicly in hopes that his partner might understand how much she means to him.
The emotional moment quickly drew attention beyond the competition itself, overshadowing what was otherwise a strong Norwegian performance in the event.
