New Phase of Kurdistan-US ties: Multi-Billion Dollar Energy Deals
Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani oversaw two landmark agreements in Washington, D.C., with US energy firms HKN Energy and WesternZagros Resources.
Together, the deals unlock an estimated 13 trillion cubic feet of gas and nearly 1 billion barrels of oil across the Miran and Topkhana fields, with an initial production of 50–70 million scf/d feeding Kurdistan’s grid.
Valued at roughly $110 billion, the projects are set to power millions, create thousands of jobs, and open export routes, heralding what Barzani calls a “new era” in US–Kurdistan relations.
