Microsoft Retires Blue Screen of Death After Three Decades
Microsoft is officially retiring the infamous “Blue Screen of Death” — a symbol of system failure for generations of Windows users — and replacing it with a simplified black screen in the upcoming Windows 11 24H2 update.
First introduced in the early 1990s, the blue screen became synonymous with tech frustration.
The new version will not only modernize the visual experience but also significantly reduce reboot times to just two seconds for most users.
