Meet ADRIANO – Rome’s First Robotic Tour Guide
In a historic blend of ancient legacy and futuristic innovation, the city of Rome introduced its first robotic employee, ADRIANO. Installed at the Temple of Hadrian, ADRIANO is designed to greet tourists and offer historical insights about Rome in both Italian and English.
Developed by the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) alongside Sapienza University, QBRobotics, and Rome’s Chamber of Commerce, ADRIANO features advanced artificial intelligence, 36 mapping sensors, and lifelike facial expressions that enable it to interact with visitors in a natural and engaging way.
The initiative, which involved over 30 experts and took 18 months to complete, is part of a broader effort to merge technology with heritage. “ADRIANO helps us narrate stories from two thousand years ago, projected into the coming years,” said Lorenzo Tagliavanti, president of Rome’s Chamber of Commerce.
