The Massive Rotating Library Lighting Up Miami Beach
The “Library of Us,” a rotating open-air bookshelf installation by British artist Es Devlin, has transformed the sands outside Miami’s Faena Hotel into a glowing, literary oasis during Miami Art Week.
The 50-foot mirrored structure slowly spins within a reflecting pool, inviting visitors to sit inside and read from 2,500 books drawn from Devlin’s own personal library—titles she has read, cherished, or hopes to read.
Devlin describes the experience as a conversation between readers and the books that shaped her life, positioning visitors as co-authors and actors within the artwork.
The installation explores coexistence, individuality, and Florida’s ongoing battles over banned books, symbolizing a shared social space where differing viewpoints can sit together.
When Art Week concludes, the installation will be dismantled, and every book will be donated to local libraries.
