This Robot Does Your Laundry: LG’s Vision for the Future Home
At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, LG offered a glimpse into what it calls the future of home automation, a robot designed to take over some of the most time-consuming household tasks.
The AI-powered home assistant, named CLOiD, drew attention not for flashy screens or entertainment features, but for something far more relatable: doing the laundry.
CLOiD is designed to operate across multiple connected devices inside the home, moving autonomously on a wheeled base while using articulated arms and hands that mimic human movement.
According to LG, the robot’s shoulders, elbows and wrists allow it to reach, lift and rotate objects, while its five-fingered hands are built to handle real appliances.
During demonstrations, CLOiD was shown transferring laundry between machines and folding towels, a moment LG executives described as a long-standing goal in home robotics.
The robot also functions as an AI home hub, integrating with LG’s smart home ecosystem through its ThinQ platform. While LG has not announced a release date, company executives described the robot as a “sneak peek at the future,” emphasizing how quickly the technology has progressed.
