Karine Jean-Pierre Breaks from Party Lines: Now Independent
Karine Jean-Pierre, who served as White House press secretary under President Joe Biden from 2022 to 2025, has officially left the Democratic Party and declared herself an independent.
The announcement comes ahead of the October release of her book Independent, in which she writes that “we need to be clear-eyed, not blindly loyal,” calling for a shift in political thinking beyond traditional party lines. Jean-Pierre’s move signals a growing willingness among political figures to challenge partisan norms following the Democrats’ 2024 election defeat.
Her decision is especially notable given her extensive history with the Democratic establishment. Jean-Pierre previously worked in President Obama’s White House, served on Biden’s 2020 campaign team, and held a senior role at the progressive advocacy group MoveOn.org.
As press secretary, she was a key voice on global issues, including the war in Ukraine and the Israel-Hamas conflict, with her public briefings receiving international attention.
Her departure adds to a broader trend of political realignment and signals the possibility of new ideological currents shaping the post-2024 political landscape.
