Italy Hits Shein With $1.15 million Over Misleading “Green” Claims

Italy’s antitrust authority has fined Shein’s European operator, Infinite Styles Services, €1 million ($1.15 million) for falsely marketing the brand’s clothing as sustainable and recyclable. The watchdog found that Shein made vague and misleading environmental claims, including promises to cut emissions that were contradicted by a rise in pollution levels in 2023 and 2024. The company says it has updated its messaging, but critics argue the fast-fashion model continues to drive environmental harm.
